The Christian Proselytizer Questionaire #9 Descrimination against women?

9. Explain why, when discrimination against women is clearly wrong, the Bible clearly supports the oppression of women. Answering this question entails refuting 1 Cor 11 and 1 Tim 2:11-15. NOTE: under no circumstances will I believe that discrimination against women solely on the basis of sex is morally acceptable.

The teachings and practices of Jesus Christ don’t support the oppression of women. Rather than refuting scripture, what needs to happen is taking it in context. Each of the books included in the bible were written for different audiences. These passages deal with particular situations and don’t neccessarily indicate standard practice.

What’s this then?

I've had a strange relationship with faith for as long as I can remember. My journey has gone from doing what I was told, to questioning, to doubting, to abandon, to wonder, to play along, to work against, to open up, to change, to embrace, to wonder, to doubt, to work towards, and to keep searching for better answers. Our various understandings of faith are deeply personal. Sharing those understandings can be very helpful to ourselves as well as others.
