15. Explain why possession by demons and/or other evil spirits was common during the time of Jesus, but hardly mentioned at all in the Old Testament, and apparently has been explained completely away today by things such as epilepsy and schizophrenia.
Each of the books that make up the bible were written at different times for different reasons. The Old Testament does mention evil quite often, just not connected with individuals. Jesus dealt with particular individuals with a variety of afflictions. I think “explained completely away” is a generalization. We have a better understanding of mental ailments now just as we do of physical ailments.
